What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) allows you to subscribe to up-to-date offers, in the form of feeds, based on your interests. The feed is sent through an RSS reader, such as My Yahoo! and appears as a link in your account. When the link is clicked on, you're brought to the Web site containing the offer in its entirety. As part of an ongoing effort to bring year-round travelers to the destination, the Ocean House – one of New England’s last grand hotels – has debuted a self-titled magazine celebrating the best of Watch Hill, R.I., and its neighboring towns. The historic resort re-opened in June 2010 following a $140 million rebuild and restoration. Farm + Vine Dinner with Chef Ben Sukle
Local and sustainable ingredients were the name of the game at last night’s Farm + Vine Dinner. Chef Ben Sukle, of the The Dorrance in Providence, graced us with beautiful hors d’oeuvres and three spectacular courses. Using fresh produce from Blackbird Farm in Smithfield, RI, Chef Sukle created deliciously different dishes, from beef tongue with crispy sauerkraut to Kombu crusted egg with sea urchin. Not to be overlooked were the expertly paired cocktails, created by guest bartenders from The Dorrance, including the Westminster Revival and Faux Mulled Wine. New Year's Eve Gala: Around the World in Eight Cuisines
On Saturday, December 31st, we celebrated New Year's Eve in a big way. Over 1,000 silver and scarlet balloons adorned the ceiling of the Living Room, ready to welcome guests as they arrived. More than 550 guests enjoyed eight cuisines from around the world and made sure to stamp their passports, received on arrival, at each of the food stations. A fully stamped passport entered guests into raffle with the chance to win a one-night's stay at the hotel. A lucky couple from North Kingstown, RI won the grand prize! Music and champagne flowed throughout the hotel, with Steve Anthony and the Persuasions keeping everyone dancing until the wee hours of the morning. A new feature this year was the Next Generation Photo Booth, where guests could take pictures of themselves with friends. Check out those pictures here. Children's Christmas Party
On Sunday, December 19th, we held our annual Children's Christmas Party as part of the Twelve Days of Christmas. Families joined us to celebrate the holidays, and enjoyed a light buffet prepared by our Culinary Team. Children sat on Santa's lap and shared their Christmas wishes, and enjoyed making gingerbread houses. Various authors attended, offering signed copies of their books. Unwrapped children's toys were collected for Toys for Tots which the Marines collected days later from the Ocean House. Read More
Farm + Vine Class: Holiday Brunch
On Thursday, December 22nd, our Farm + Vine Class took on the holidays with a class focused on Holiday Brunch. Guests sat at the Chef's Counter in Seasons, as Food Forager Jan Faust Dane demonstrated how to make Eggs Benedict with Johnnycakes, eggs from Pat's Pastured (for the poached egg and the brown butter hollandaise), and Ocean House-cured ham. Sommelier Jonathan Feiler mixed up the following cocktails for guests: Brandy Milk Punch, Poinsettia Cocktail and Bellini. Guests left with new holiday recipes, and a full stomach! Read More
Salt Marsh Opera Holiday Concert and Dinner
Last night, Salt Marsh Opera brought our guests a beautiful performance of holiday music. The talented singers, soprano Courtney Crouse, baritone Christopher Burchett, and accompanist Aymeric Dupre la Tour, performed both classic and newer hits, including "Baby It's Cold Outside", "Oh Holy Night", and "Santa Baby". Guests also enjoyed a five-course dinner prepared by Seasons' Chefs. Read More
